ENGINE GASKETS

Engine gaskets (often known as head gaskets) works as a seal to maintain pressure, hold fluid and prevent debris from entering the engine.

When a head gasket fails, coolant can seep into the combustion chamber and mix with the engine oil. This can cause significant engine damage and could require a complete engine rebuild or replacement.

Common signs of a damaged gasket includes:

  • Coolant leaks
  • Low Coolant Levels
  • Engine overheating
  • White smoke from the exhaust
  • Bubbles in the radiator
  • Low compression
  • Milky colour in the oil

To minimise head gasket problems use readymade coolant/water mixtures — never add the two separately.

Cut the engine the moment it overheats and remedy the conditions of overheating.
